Pignola Vine Variety
Pignola (Pignola valtellinese) is an autochthonous vine of Valtellina which is characterized by high fertility and vigor, with constant productivity. Its grapes are characterized by a good sugar content and flavor. Sensitive to powdery mildew and botrytis in years with rainy autumn trends. Average weight of the bunch 160/180 g.
The clonal selection project developed in Valtellina by the Fojanini Foundation has led to the following result:

Good vigor, good and constant productivity, very good fertility; high that of the basal buds; medium-small, pentagonal, five-lobed leaf with lobes and sinuses of a regular and symmetrical shape, petiolar sinus closed in a narrow V, dark green flap, cupped with a bullous surface;. medium-small bunch, cylindrical, short, with a short wing, tight, very short peduncle, medium-small, spheroidal berry, dark red-violet skin, which turns blue-black when exposed to the sun, thin, pruinose; anticipates veraison and maturation; good tolerance towards downy mildew, fair to powdery mildew and botrytis; real fertility: 1.24; wine with a lively ruby red color, spicy floral aromas, light in body, sapid, refined; it is generally vinified in blends, it lends itself to being vinified in white, guaranteeing a wine with pleasant and delicate aromatic notes.
